HR 875: Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009
Highlights of the bill:

• Main backer and lobbyist is Monsanto—chemical and genetic engineering giant corporation (and Cargill, ADM, and about 35 other related agri-giants).
• Requires organic farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated by the newly formed agency to "make sure there is no danger to the public food supply."
• Backyard gardens that grow food only for a family and not for sales are included.
• NO more heirloom clean seeds will be available, only Monsanto genetically altered seeds, which have been scientifically proven to cause unexpected diseases in humans.

S. 425 Food Safety and Tracking Improvement Act

Main purpose of bill:

• To give FDA broad sweeping powers to trace all foods and recall foods for any reason they deem necessary

Example of current misuse of FDA powers:

• The FDA has recently ruled a naturally occurring form of B6 a drug. Then allowed an agri-giant to patent the chemical version of the B6 form and sell it without being called a drug. This means that health food stores and natural food retailers have massive amounts of red tape and to sell the naturally occurring form of B6.

Something about that just doesn’t sound right; so, imagine what would happen with their new broader powers.
